Our Approach to A.I.

Artificial Intelligence is the single greatest lever to human productivity in our generation. To solve problems for the next decades, these tools allow us to summarize a wide space of information, understand complex topics, and write as well as Shakespeare. The amount of drudgingly boring data entry tasks it has eliminated, is inspiring. Allowing humans to work jobs that inspire joy, match our hobbies, and preserve the human spirit for meaning.

At the same time, we believe that humans will still be the masters of their craft. That human plus machine still is the best approach, just as it always has been. And replacing writers for AI, makes our society poorer, dumber, and sadder…

Our approach is an attempt to strike a balance, preserving what humans do best, while relying on AI for select tasks like initial research, and automatable background tasks.  

We will use AI to help with the following tasks in our business:

• Researching sources

• Summarizing our articles for sharing on social media

• First drafts on standardized documents such as product listings

• Parts of customer service

What we must not lose to AI:

• Citing legitimate research papers and human experts advice on animal care

• Having first-hand experience about the articles we write

• Standing behind all work we publish, knowing it is as factual as we can make

What we will not outsource to AI:

• Validating and reading sources

• The final editing and approval of documents

• Real images and videos of pets using our products

These rules will be updated from time to time, as we navigate through the ever-changing world. We are certain that there will always be a need for small critters that bring joy like hamsters, geckos, and snakes. And with that comes a need for deep expertise, compassion, and transparency on how to take care of them.
