Your young turtle will slide into the cavern underneath, then climb up and out to bask on top. Set a rock on the platform and you've got a full basking station: underwater shelter below, warm surface above, one continuous movement between them.

On land it works the same way, just without the water. A dark enclosed hide underneath, a platform on top for basking and perching. The large opening means turtles up to around 6 inches wide can move in and out without wedging.
